ENGWRT 1175 - FICTION SEMINAR: FAMILIES AND SMALL TOWNSMinimum Credits: 3 Maximum Credits: 3 This course examines the various and diverse ways writers define the idea of family and home. Equally varied are the small towns in which these stories take place: we may be in Flannery O'Connor's rural Georgia, or in Jhumpa Lahiri's suburban New England. Or in Greensburg. Or in August Wilson's Pittsburgh. Students will write and revise short stories that concern family matters and take place in small towns - perhaps their own. Students will be encouraged to share their work throughout the university community - through the monthly Voices series, through publishing in the student-run magazine Pendulum, and more.
