IL 1362 - ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY AND ACCESSIBILITYMinimum Credits: 3 Maximum Credits: 3 This course provides an overview of how assistive technology can be utilized to provide all students, including students with exceptional needs, access to education, communication, mobility, recreation, and independence. Students with special needs may be more dependent on technology (e.g., audiobooks) or may benefit from technology (e.g., voice to text). This course focuses on the wide variety of assistive technology available for education and how to best employ it for students with exceptional needs. Included are assistive technology adaptations to access reading, math, social studies, and science. Teacher candidates will have the opportunity to apply current research and best practice to support Universal Design for Learning and Differentiated Instruction to reduce barriers in instruction by providing appropriate accommodations and supports while maintaining high expectations for all students, including students with exceptional needs.
