IL 1324 - ENGAGING YOUNG CHILDREN IN LEARNINGMinimum Credits: 3 Maximum Credits: 3 This course focuses on the establishment of an educational curriculum and environment that fosters the growth and development of children in all areas -- cognitive, social, physical, and emotional ' during the pre-kindergarten and early kindergarten periods. Components of the course include the foundations of early childhood education; curriculum models and approaches; classroom management and scheduling; integrated instructional planning, including play; observation and other assessment approaches appropriate for use with very young children; and indoor and outdoor environmental design. One component of the course is a field experience in a pre-kindergarten setting.
