Focusing on the major American and European plays of the 20th century, this course will introduce students to the dynamic and complex theatrical movements of the current era: realism, symbolism, expressionism, Brechtian theatre. Primary attention will be given to texts themselves, however a consideration of production method and performance theory will also be included.
