Minimum Credits: 3
Maximum Credits: 3
The cell's ability to exist and to do useful work will be examined in terms of its molecular structure. After a brief review of the general properties of biomolecules, the cell will be analyzed in terms of macromolecular assemblies and their specific functions. Topics will include discussions on the cell surface and the cell membrane as the reactive interface with the outer world and continue with the internal membrane systems that separate the cytoplasm into functionally distinct zones.
