COMMRC 1180 - HISTORY AND RHETORIC OF FILM GENRESMinimum Credits: 3 Maximum Credits: 3 Introduce students to the historical, rhetorical, aesthetic, and commercial dimensions and traditions of Hollywood film genres. A wide variety of film genres will be addressed potentially including comedy, satire, romance, thriller, musical, horror, science fiction, war, and film noir. The course will examine the historical development, changing conventions, iconography, and mythology present within these various Hollywood film genres. The course will also enable students to investigate the rhetorical implications of how artistic and commercial interests converge to reflect, comment upon, and influence American popular culture and society through the stories of a diverse range of classic and contemporary Hollywood genre films.
