IL 1222 - MATHEMATICS IN THE PRIMARY YEARSMinimum Credits: 3 Maximum Credits: 3 This course is designed to provide the theoretical background and the pedagogical and psychological concepts necessary for planning, implementing, and assessing a mathematics program for the early elementary grades. A variety of instructional approaches will be introduced, with particular emphasis on teaching mathematics through problem solving and active learning experiences. Contents will include the selection and preparation of appropriate instructional materials for effectively facilitating the learning of mathematical content and process skills, and for integrating this learning with other areas of the elementary school curriculum.
