ENGLIT 1020 - HISTORY OF LITERARY CRITICISMMinimum Credits: 3 Maximum Credits: 3 This course considers influential critical theorists ranging from Plato and Augustine to Nietzsche and Freud. Neither the readings nor the approach of the class fall under the narroWest definitions of literary criticism; our focus instead will be on texts from several disciplines that offer powerful models of reading and writing and that raise interesting questions about the foundations of literature, culture, and interpretation.
