ANTH 1544 - ANCIENT CIVILIZATIONSMinimum Credits: 3 Maximum Credits: 3 This course examines the rise and fall of several ancient civilizations. It covers the archaeology and earliest history of regions recognized as significant independent centers for the development of early civilization: Mesopotamia, Egypt, Indus Valley, China, South East Asia, MesoAmerica, and Andean South America. Central themes concern: why and how civilizations first emerge and then collapse; relationships among economic, political, social, and ideological factors in early civilizations; generic versus unique qualities of different early civilizations.
